Discover How to Train Your Best Friend

Training your dog can sometimes be a daunting "chore" if you don't approach it the right way. In this article I am going to talk about training your dog as a pet. I will show you how to get started, the costs involved, the different methods there are to achieve your goal and what breeds of dogs are easier to train than others. It's not that hard to train most breeds, it just takes a little perseverance.
Of course it's much easier to start training your dog when it is a puppy, however, you can teach an old dog new tricks. But usually the earlier you start, the better. The basic points of training your best friend are:
- Sit
- Stay
- Down
- Recall ("come" or "here")
- Leash walking
- Heel
- House breaking
It's always important to remember to reward your pet with a positive word and/or a treat when they have accomplished a goal. It's also important to reprimand your pet if they do not heed your instructions. If you opt for professional training, usually the trainer will also want to "train" you, the owner, right along with Fido. Professional training can be a bit expensive, but there are ways to do this yourself.
The costs involved in having your dog professionally trained can range from a few hundred dollars to a couple of thousand. You just need to shop around and get the best price that fits your budget. Training your pet yourself is of course much cheaper monetarily you will just have to invest a lot of time and patience. The basic tools you will need to train your friend yourself are: a nice sturdy collar and/or harness, a retractable leash and plenty of Fido's favorite treats.
There are many different methods you can use to get your pet to obey you. This is very important for the happiness and well being of both you and your dog. I have found that using the reward method works best for me. When ever my puppy does a command correctly I reward him with his favorite treat, If he does not follow instructions, he gets no treat. Of course it is also important to give them words of encouragement. Dogs love to make their master proud of them.
There are hundreds of different breeds of dogs and some are easier to train than others. It also depends on what you are training them for. Some of the easiest breeds to train are German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, Shetland Sheepdogs and Rottweilers. Some of the harder to train breeds are Shih Tzus, Basset Hounds, Mastiffs and Beagles. Of course there are always exceptions to the rules. These are just a few of the easiest and hardest to train breeds I found in my research.
Training your dog properly will save you a lot of frustration and will help keep your pet safe and healthy. It will also lead to you and your pet living together in harmony and in blissful unison. A pet can add quality and purpose to your life. You will be able to share your friend's life for many years to come.
